The Future of Liberal Politics: Summer Policy Brown Bag Lunch Forum for New York City Interns     Email    Printer-Friendly
The Century Foundation
7/23/2003  12:00-2:00 PM
The Century Foundation, 41 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021
Americans have “rallied around the flag” since the attacks of 9-11 and the ensuing war on terrorism. Those who questioned new anti-terrorism laws or protested against the war in Iraq have been successfully labeled as unpatriotic liberals. A recent New York Times magazine article documented the rise of the new Republican, or “hip-publican, ” and conservative student bases on college campuses – once believed to be a solid bastion for liberalism. In the face of this, what is the future of liberalism? How will this affect national politics and policy? How will this affect the future of the Democratic Party? What can we expect in the upcoming 2004 elections? The panel will look at shifts in politics, population, and popular culture to explore these questions. This panel discussion is part of The Century Foundation’s policy-in-perspective brown bag lunch forums, designed for interns working in New York City.
